Let’s get into it…

Digest

The Province Says Goodbye to Deborah Birmingham
The province has lost another well-known broadcaster. Deborah Birmingham, best known as a co-host of OZFM’s Dawn Patrol, passed away last week. Her death comes three months after the passing of her longtime co-host, Randy Snow. She joined OZFM in 1984 and became a cornerstone of Newfoundland and Labrador’s morning radio. Working alongside Snow and Larry Jay, the trio was a staple for over a decade. She also spent part of her career co-hosting NTV News Day. She will be missed.

City of St. John’s Winter Recreation Registration
Set your alarm clocks. If you’re looking to take a recreation class with the City of St. John’s this winter, registration opens at 7:00am on Thursday. Registration for aquatics like swimming lessons will be next week. But no worry, we’ll give you a head’s up.

Record Breaking Rain 🌧️
The last day that St. John’s saw nothing fall from the sky was October 23rd.  Since then we’ve gone on to break the November record for rainfall. The previous record was 285.9mm set in 2004 and as of November 25th, we’re currently at 295.8mm with 5 days to go. We’re currently being promised a sunny day a week from now so hopefully December will bring the sun back.

Kioti National Grand Slam of Curling đźĄŚ
The biggest curling event St. John’s has hosted since the Brier in 2017 and saw Brad Gushue win his first of 6 (so far) titles has kicked off!. If you don’t already have yours, there are still some tickets kicking around at the Mary Brown’s Centre. And if you’re heading out for a draw (curling, not the other stuff, although we don’t judge) pop by the Newfoundland Embassy for a pint and a bite before or after. They’ll be serving up breakfast this week as well for the early risers.

Local Business

  • We missed this one last week but it looks as if Bad Bones Ramen has closed their doors this month. This one hurts.

  • Chinched will also be closing the doors of their restaurants after their New Year’s Eve service and will be pivoting to a deli counter/pop-up incubator.

  • Kicking the trend, SpiceX will be opening their 2nd location in St. John’s in the coming weeks at the former Blackmarsh Superette.

  • Higher State Health & Wellness Club celebrated their grand opening this past weekend. They have everything from yoga & pilates to physiotherapy to naturopathic medicine.
