Celebrating Powerful Women + What’s New in Town This Week

Good morning, St. John’s. This is St. John’s Living —the local newsletter that’s your cheat sheet for the week ahead.

In this week’s St. John’s Living:

  • CFUW accepting book donations 📚

  • Josuha the G.O.A.T. book release 🐐

  • Remembering Frank Maher 🪗

Let’s get into it…

📚 Spring Cleaning Your Personal Library

CFUW will be accepting donations of books starting Saturday until the 23rd from 11am-3pm every day at the former Globo Shoes location at Avalon Mall. They accept all kinds of books except encyclopedias, magazines, Readers Digest condensed books and textbooks. Then keep an eye out for the big sale April 3-5!

🐐 Joshua the Goat get a Book Deal

Do you remember last fall when a goat from Taylor’s Pumpkin Patch slipped his pen and joined the T’Railway Trek Half Marathon? Not only did Joshua the goat get a medal for finishing the race, he now has a book! Local children’s author Courtney Wicks wrote and illustrated Joshua the G.O.A.T. and it will be available on Amazon on March 7. Also, later this summer at provincial libraries and Downhome book racks across the island.

🪗 Another Music Legend Gone

This past weekend local accordion legend Frank Maher passed away just shy of his 91st birthday. Frank was an original member of Figgy Duff and known as much for his sense of humour as for his mastery of the button accordion. And who could forget his stint as a calendar pin-up in the 2003 naked accordion player charity calendar? He will be missed.
