Good morning, St. John’s. This is St. John’s Living —the local newsletter where we serve hot and fresh St. John’s news like chicken teriyaki samples at Costco. And we never give you the look for coming back twice.
In this week’s St. John’s Living:

St. John’s Regatta announces new Open Crew category 🚣♀️

🍔 Let’s Get Ready to Rumble
The annual St. John’s Burger Battle is back March 1st. Over 40 local restaurants will create a custom burger with flavours and fusions from around the world, and you get to vote for your favourite. Plus, during the month of March, if you post pics of your burgers you’ll be entered to win a gift card from one of the participating restaurants. Keep an eye on the Downtown St. John’s site for the announcement of this year’s participants.
🚣♀️ The Royal St. John’s Regatta Become More Inclusive
This past week the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee announced a new Open Crew category for the 2025 races. The new category will allow teams to be formed based solely on age, without gender restrictions. This ensures trans, non-binary, gender-diverse athletes and all rowers can participate in a way that aligns with their identities. This policy supplements existing Regatta policies that ensure trans athletes can compete in gendered categories without discrimination. We love to see it.
👏 Applause St. John’s
Do you know someone from St. John’s who deserves accolades? Applause St. John’s (aka City Awards) was established to celebrate outstanding achievements of individuals and organizations in a variety of areas, from sports to volunteers to heritage or youth. Nominations are open until Friday so check out the categories and send in your nomination today.
