More Feuds, Pop Queens & Speed Dating for Seniors – What a Week!

Good morning, St. John’s. This is St. John’s Living —the local newsletter equivalent of that friend who always knows the best food trucks in town.

In this week’s St. John’s Living:

  • Another family, another feud on CBC 📺

  • So long Corey, thanks for the tunes 🎶

  • ChillFest is heating up 🥶

Let’s get into it…

Digest

📺 Another Family, Another Feud

Earlier this week another Newfoundland family took to the stage of Family Feud to try to win $10,000. The Eason family of Conception Bay South took on the Chelam family from Ontario yesterday. It didn’t go as well for the Easons as it did for the French family last month but still a fun watch!

🎶 So long Corey, thanks for the tunes

This past weekend Newfoundland lost a legend. Corey Crewe of the popular duo Corey and Trina passed away at the age of 80. Corey and Trina were high school sweethearts who endeared themselves to packed clubs across the island through the 70s, 80s, and 90s. So the next time you hear “The Northern Lights of Labrador” raise a glass to Corey.

🥶 ChillFest is Heating Up

ChillFest is an annual community-wide celebration of winter put off by the City of St. John’s, with a variety of free activities for all ages and abilities. And the best part is…it’s all free. We’ve highlighted a few of the events on the go this week but you can check out the full schedule on the city’s website.

Local Business

  • Crust Craft Bakery is moving to 340 LeMarchant Road. Their last day at their original Pearson Street location was February 7th

  • Doodlepalooza has just put the finishing touches on a 3’ Newfoundland penny replica for their shop. Drop by to take a look and why not browse some local merch while you’re at it?

  • Bannerman Brewing’s new in-house menu will be rolling out this week.

  • DYK: Modo Yoga offers 3 free meditation classes each week?

  • Looks like Cork’d Wine Bar may have served their last glass. Chains have been seen on the doors, which doesn’t bode well for the business.

  • Mysa is making the move from LeMarchant Rd to Fortis Place this month.
